Style
His photographs are almost all colorful. He studied both photography and sculpture. His photos' back ground are extremely clean meaning there is no distraction at all. His background are often black or white. He likes to group sets of objects to create another view from an object. That is my favorite part about him.

Philosophy
As he assisted several photographers in New York, he was taught the fundamentals of lighting and running a business. He was influenced so much by the photographers. I also think his photography's are representing what he likes and natural beauties that we can never find unless we actually photograph.

Influence
Sam Kaplan influenced my style of photography in many ways. The cleanness of his photography's background told me the importance of setting up your own background, and making it clean. I also realized the beauty of colors. He uses various colors in his photographies.

My Personal Artist Statement
The photos on the left are taken by Sam Kaplan and on the right are taken by me. It was quite hard to resemble the photos because Kaplan used various materials to take photos, and I did not have access to most of them. However, I tried my best to take good photos. I also edited the photos so that the photos resemble the original photos. Kaplan seemed to love taking photos of foods, so i picked the theme. Lighting is one of the things that I was thinking about when I took the photos.

I particulaly loved the picture because of the simpleness, and how he is taking only that part of the egg. I took the picture using LED light. I was setting up the light in the location so that the direction of the shade is as similar as it could be. One thing that was hard when I took the picture is the color of the egg. I could not quite resemble the colors. One reason might be because the light was too bright.
The picture stood out to me because of the nice contrast that the bread and the background. The biggest difference you could recognize from the pictures are that they are different kinds of pretzels. I changed the background of the photo to make it close to the color of the other background. One thing that I made sure when taking the photo is that the circle is consistent. If I could have cut the background more clearly, then it would have been better.
The picture looked interesting to me because of the variations of the colors that are on the picture. I could not find the red looking fruit, so I used strawberry instead. For some reasons, my blue berry and his blueberries did not match their colors. It is making my picture looks a little off. I tried to keep the asymmetrical balance in the picture.
